Transportation in Buxar

Buxar being an important part of Bihar is well connected to other parts of the country. On the north of Buxar lies Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh (U.P.), on the west lies Ghazipur and Ballia districts of U.P., on the south is Rohtas district, and on the east is Bhojpur district. Buxar is connected with Ballia District of neighboring state Uttar Pradesh by a road bridge called Veer Kunwar Singh Setu over Ganges. Buxar is connected with all the major cities of the state. It is connected with state capital Patna by rail and road routes.

Transport in Buxar

Because of the good road and railway transport , there is a lot of trade activities that take place between Buxar and cities of neighbouring state Uttar Pradesh such as Varanasi, Ballia and Ghazipur. The city has a good road, water and railway transport. The Ganges is navigable throughout the facilitating the trade of Buxar with Kolkata on the east and places in Uttar Pradesh on the west.

Road Network in Buxar

Bihar State Road Transportation Corporation ( BSTDC) looks after the road transport of Buxar. BSTDC runs many buses from major cities to this part of Bihar. The city is also connected by road to many remote villages. Buxar is at a distance of 135 KM by road from the capital city of Bihar Patna. The district has a good road transport since early time. Francis Buchhunan has also mentioned in Buxar Journal about some of the very good roads in the district. He gave a special mention to a very good road with brick bridges from Koilwar to Buxar through which he travelled. He also mentioned a some of the other good roads like the great road to Dumraon-Patna-Arrah-Buxar road, Varanasi road to Sasaram, Dumraon-Nasriganj road, Behiya-Piro road and Sasaram-Bikramganj-Arrah road.

Railways in Buxar

Buxar railway station is one of the important railway station in India. It is connects the town to many important cities. Buxar is located on the main line of the Eastern Railways and is 48 kms long.From here you can catch trains for some of the important cities and towns like Ahmedabad, Howrah, Mumbai, and New Delhi. There are regular trains from Buxar to Mumbai. Because of the strategic location of Buxar railway station all the major trains passes by Buxar.

Air Transport in Buxar

Buxar does not have a proper airport and hence one cannot reach Buxar directly by air. The nearest airport is Patna airport known by the name Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport. Patna is located at a distance of around 135 kilometers from Buxar. The Patna airport have regular flights to many cities like Lucknow, Chennai, Ranchi, Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bhopal.Buxar has a good road connectivity. Buxar can be reached by a taxi, a normal Indian taxi charges Rupees 8 to 20 for each km. to roam around in the city one can also choose to hire an auto or three wheeler which is a less expensive mode of transport.
